Gina and I met several years ago at a food show, and needless to say, we bonded pretty quickly. I approached her while she was working the Maria and Ricardo's table just to mention how much I love their product (and to try some free whole wheat quesadilla samples :-) She asked me what I did for a living, and I told her I worked part-time as a substitute teacher back in Boston. The conversation continued, and next thing I know, Gina and I are having an in-depth discussion about seasonal vegetables and local produce! I think we both recognized the foodie in each other, and right then and there she asked me if I would be interested in writing a food blog about tortilla recipes. At first I was nervous, unsure if I had the credentials or the time to do this, but Gina assured me that I would be great at it, plus, it would be a great opportunity to channel my food inspirations! So, I accepted her offer, we exchanged emails, and started talking.
Only a few weeks after we first met, Gina and I had already begun writing the initial posts and developing recipes. When I dropped the kids off at school the next week, I told my friend, Sharon, a math teacher, about the blog, and she reminded me that her son, Eric, was going to Le Cordon Bleu in Boston to become a chef. Gina had just asked me about bringing another person in to help us with the recipes, so I got Eric’s phone number from Sharon and called him the next day. Eric thought I was kidding at first, and made fun of me for being a “mommy blogger,” but I told him that this was a food blog that just so happened to be written by a mom. Once I promised Eric that I would give him full access to my kitchen, and that Gina would be providing us with plenty of tortillas to work with, he was in, and the tortilla trifecta was born.
And there you have it, the making of the blog: One part Mommy, three parts foodie, and all things tortilla.
